In Year 1, we work hard and learn lots of interesting things, but we also have lots and lots of fun!
Because of our current risk assessment measures in relation to COVID 19, extended school clubs are not taking place this year (2020-21), therefore, our Year 5 children were unable to complete the upload of Webwatcher news.
Please find attached details of the Autumn 2020 Curriculum Newsletter, this provides a summary of the topics that your children will be studying this term.
We have reviewed our curriculum offer in Autumn to assist the recovery process for all our pupils following their prolonged absence from school as a result of school closures in March 2020. We aim to reignite the flame of learning in each child by restoring the children’s mental health and rebuilding their resilience allowing them to become resilient learners again.
In addition, the attached parent’s letter provides details of Religious Education topics.
Each term our Year 5 children upload information collated from each class as part of one of our Extended school Clubs. All information below is written by the children for parents and interested parties to gain a deeper insight into what fun and interesting activities each class are partaking in each term.
SPRING TERM / SUMMER TERM / AUTUMN 2020

Year 1 Autumn Term 2019
Year 1 are learning about old toys and new toys. Year 1 have now been learning about Florence Nightingale This week Year 1 have been learning about Samuel Peeps and the great fire of London and how it spread across the city. This week, Year 1 have been writing a story about how the fire of London started and when. Recently Year 1 has been learning all about Queen Elizabeth 1.
This term Year 1 are writing a story about animals and said they really enjoyed it. Year one have been writing stories about toys coming to life. They have also been making their own story about Florence Nightingale. This week Year 1 have been writing a big recount of Florence Nightingale’s past. This week Year 1 have written a recount about the great fire of London. Unsurprisingly, this class has made magnificent character portraits of the Queen.
Year 1 love learning about how to add independently and confidently with lots of different and big numbers. In maths, Year one are doing difficult adding. Wow! Year 1 have been working really hard on making sums and have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes and how their characteristics are similar and different. Recently this class have compered numbers to 10 and 20. Super work from year 1 this week about adding up to 10 and 20, also taking away. WELL DONE.
They have been learning all about the body and senses that we all have and need to have in our bodies. Year 1 are continuing to develop their understanding of senses. Year 1 has been grouping animals by features, such as if they have legs or if they don’t. Dinosaurs have been getting studied in Year 1. This amazing class has been writing about mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fish.
In P.E Year 1 have been playing games balls in like cups and time bomb and they all said they loved it. This term, Year one have been dancing just like they would if they were toys! This term Year 1 are doing gymnastics and how to do it safely. Year 1 have been developing their skills in football and dodge ball .They played hit the target and absolutely loved it.
Year 1 have been learning all about all the different religions and they have been mostly concentrated on Judaism. In Year one’s RE topic, they have been learning how to belong in big groups and small ones too! Year 1 are writing a prayer for their parents and learning about baptism. Year 1 have been investigating the annunciation.
Ava said “I like PE.”
Verity said “I like learning about the senses.”
Isabella said “I love the great fire of London. “
