Our Mini Vinnies currently meet each week on a Thursday lunchtime. These meetings are led by our Y6 president and secretary where possible members of the parish SVP are also in attendance. St Bernadette’s school recruit every year a group children to become ‘Mini Vinnies’. This group of enthusiastic and conscientious volunteers work hard in school to ‘turn concern into action’. They support the parish SVP group wherever possible.

Each year, they were commissioned at a special school assembly in the Autumn term.

They meet throughout the year to say prayers, write letters, make cards and organise special events.

During this special year of jubilee, as part of our work as Pilgrims of Hope we hope to complete the following work:

  • support the parish food bank collection.
  • write cards and letters to prisoners
  • attend special Diocesan masses such as the Healing mass and the Chrism mass.
  • make Christmas cards, Easter cards, Get Well cards and Birthday cards for local residents and parishioners.
  • write letters of ‘hope’ to the sick and housebound of our local community.
  • we have already organised a special Christmas party for local housebound parishioners and neighbours and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
  • support the chaplaincy team by monitoring and ensuring sacred spaces are appealing and fit the liturgical calendar.
  • research and suggest new songs and hymns that can be used during our worship through song each week. We often introduce these to the rest of school.
  • continue to work on renovating the school’s ‘peace garden’.

The Mini-Vinnie Promise

As a member of Mini Vinnies,

I promise to make a difference to my world by:

Caring for, respecting and loving myself.

Strengthening my friendship with Jesus by talking to him each day and talking to others about him.

Caring for others in my school and community by being a friend to those who are alone, in need or in trouble.

Making my family happy by my help, respect and showing kindness and consideration.

Caring for and enjoying God’s world.

Treating others the way I would like them to treat
