Children are encouraged to bring money in each week for CAFOD. The money is collected in green plant pots and at the end of each term it is sent off to CAFOD, providing World Gifts for the needy.

At St Bernadette’s, we support various different charities. In recent years, we have raised money for Red Nose Day; Children in Need and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle (Children’s Ward).

We have also fundraised for Mr Peacock via the Hospitals charity.

This year we will take part in a colour fun run for Mind charity.

Every two years we have a Y5/6 school sleepover to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless and the role of the De Paul Society.

Every Christmas, we support the CAUSE campaign. Each class is assigned a local family to purchase Christmas gifts for. Children place a ribbon on our Jesse tree to symbolise the gift they brought in. The gifts are placed into hampers and delivered to worthy families across Middlesbrough.

Each Lent, the children take home Red Mission Boxes and give generously to support the work of Mission Together – children helping children. Children are asked to remember to put a few pennies in the box now and again, maybe doing without a packet of sweets or crisps. They return the boxes during our last week of term – Holy Week. Our Mini-Vinnies group will be responsible for collecting, counting and posting the funds donated to Mission Together.

Our ‘Mini-Vinnies’ and school council are also instrumental in organising regular fundraisers.
