PTA Easter raffle

Our Easter egg raffle was a huge success last week.  Thank you for the donations of eggs and purchasing of raffle tickets. We raised over £1000 which will be directly used to source further reading resources/ipads.

Important Changes to School Meals (Y3-6 only)

Previously, we have offered parents the choice of their child having a school meal or a packed lunch (but not a combination of the two).

We have discussed this option with Caterlink and our School Cook Nicola Mason and are pleased to advise that we will now offer this as an option (for a trial period).

Should you wish your child to have a mix between school meals and a packed lunch from home, please email [email protected]  or contact the school office, before Monday 25th April. Please provide your child’s details : name, year group and details the days of the week when school meal or packed lunch are requested. Any changes will commence from 25/04/2022. We will trial this for the next half term and will communicate a decision as to whether we are able to continue before 27/05/2022.

Staffing update (from Mr Conway)

Please be aware that from Monday 25th April, Mr Conway will start a new role as Executive Headteacher of St Bernadette’s and All Saints Primary (Thirsk).  My presence in school will be very similar to what it is now, but I will be based at All Saints on my current Trust days.   The advantages of working closely with other schools in our Trust has so many positive benefits.  Miss Brady will continue in her Head of School role and be supported by Mrs Pennick and all our wonderful staff each day.  Be assured of my absolute continued commitment to our fantastic school.

Happy Easter

We wish you a very happy and Holy Easter break, please find attached a Lenten reflection to share as a family over the break. https://www.paperturn-view.com/uk/wednesday-word/lent-easter-card?pid=MTA101634&v=57.15

The 9am performance will be for adults only as the whole school (children) will see class assemblies at an alternative time.  To safely distance visitors, we can welcome a maximum capacity of 60 parents into the hall this term and therefore we can only invite one adult per family to the assembly (separated families may have one ticket per family). Please contact our enquiries email ([email protected] ) or see Mrs Simpson at the office from Monday 10th January to collect/request your one free ticket. Like our Christmas performances all visitors must wear masks, sanitise their hands, have a ticket and have no COVID symptoms.  Please note, we will also film and place on Google Classroom for any family members who can not attend.

  • COVID 19

Please be aware that confirmatory PCR tests following a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result were temporarily suspended from Tuesday 11 January. This is for asymptomatic people.  This will mean that asymptomatic people who receive a positive LFD test result will be required to self-isolate immediately and will not be required to take a confirmatory PCR test.  All positive lateral flow tests must be recorded on gov.uk: https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

  • The guidance on symptomatic people is unchanged (new continuous cough; high temperature; change of taste / smell): If you have COVID-19 symptoms you should stay at home and self-isolate immediately. You should arrange to have a PCR test as soon as possible. If this PCR test result is positive, you must continue to self-isolate .  On Monday 17th January, the isolation period for people who test positive for Covid will be been cut to “five full days” in England.  People will be able leave isolation from the start of day six after two negative tests  eg Day 5 and morning of Day 6.  Without 2 consecutive days of negative lateral flows, you must continue to self-isolate for 10 days .
  • Please be advised that there are a limited number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 within some year groups.  Across the country Covid-19 rates within the school age groups are increasing, please be assured we will continue to do all we can to prevent the spread of infection to keep our children and families safe. We would recommend that where possible children take regular lateral flow tests to limit the spread of infection.  It is the responsibility of Test and Trace to inform you where you/children are close contacts.   Where someone is notified as a close contact, and you don’t have symptoms of COVID, close contacts can continue to attend school/work but are expected to take lateral flow tests for 7 days.

Many thanks,

Miss Brady and Mr Conway

October news

Black History Month

This month through our curriculum, assemblies and online author events we have celebrated and recognised the fundamental part of British history that black people have had.  Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.

School Trips

We have enjoyed our first external trips since COVID this month. The Y2 children walked to Stewart’s Park to learn more about Captain Cook and our Year 6 children were invited to Trinity to experience the Science laboratory – they dissected a heart! It is great to be out and about enriching our in school curriculum offer.

Fire Awareness

As we prepare for Bonfire night our children across school had an assembly delivered by Dave from Cleveland Fire Brigade.  Please discuss fire safety with your children in advance of November 5th.

Harvest

Many thanks for your incredibly generous Harvest contributions this year. St Mary’s Primary School  in GrangeTown were so grateful for the donations.

First Holy Communion Communion

The Y6 children enjoyed a wonderful party to celebrate the Holy Communion participants. Many thanks to the parents who contributed towards the food.

Y7 Applications.

Now our Year 6 open evenings are over, make sure you get your applications in on time to secure your child’s place at an NPCAT secondary school for September 2022.  Applications must be made via your local council. The applications window closes on 31 October 2021

Thank you

Thank you so much to all of our wonderful children who have worked hard to be the best they can be this term. Thank you to the staff of St Bernadette’s. They are a dedicated and hard working group of people and we are so lucky to have them.

Finally, thank you to our parents and grandparents who continually support the school and children in so many vital ways.

We wish you a restful, safe and sunny half term,

Miss Brady and Mr Conway
