Welcome
Welcome to Year Six! Our Year Six class teacher is Mr. Bourner, who is supported the incomparable Mrs. Walpole.
We are the oldest children in school and therefore try to always be shining examples to the rest of St Bernadette’s in our words and actions. We work hard in class to achieve our goals and also enjoy the many exciting opportunities offered to us in Year Six, such as a residential away from home and the summer-term activity week!
In Year Six, we use an online programme called ‘SATs Booster’, which is used to set weekly homework activities and also support our learning in class. In addition to this, we encourage children to read at home as regularly as possible. Parents/carers are requested to sign their child’s reading record each time they read at home. We expect our Year Six children to be organised, ensuring they bring their reading book and reading records into school every day. Our aim is for all children to reach 100 reads or more by the end of the year! Children are also expected to practise their key mathematical skills, such as times tables, as often as they can at home.
Our termly newsletters (below) set out which days are currently Year Six PE days. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit (non-branded please). Details of our PE expectations can be found in the schools uniform policy.
Year Six can be a challenging year as children and parents work through the transition into secondary. Our staff do everything they can to support our children’s academic, social and emotional needs. We also do our best to ensure that the challenging curriculum is balanced by making many lifelong memories, such as having their own reception buddy, staying away from home with friends and taking part in our summer-term activity week!
